Reggae is life

To me Reggae is a way of life. The food the patoi, the music all ties into one. The music and artist appeal to the general public as we as society are able to identify our every day life with the lyrics. Although reggae branches out into different Genres which can be appreciated by different generations. Reggae in it many forms are apreciate by the vast majority of caribbean people.

Me in particular enjoy Dancehall and concious subgroups as i find it more upbeat and the lyric content is riddled with punchlines

Reggae music has definitly evolved over the years. As an islander i grew up listening to the Legends Bob Marley and Buju banton. They inspired me through their lyrics and concious vybe. Growing up, Reggae changed and many people didn't know the difference between reggae and dancehall music.
Reggae is all about the message that the singer is trying to get across to the listener. I personally enjoy listening to reggae music and it is one of my favourtie genres.

Reggae is not only a music genre, to me its a whole culture. Reggae also plays a very important role in the caribbean. I remember my uncle would play songs by Gregory Isaacs among other influential artists & i would listen to the lyrics. It was not like rap, these reggae artists actually had something to say. I think it also unites Caribbean people & brings back memories. Sometimes i would hear a certain reggae song & i would remember that my uncle played them all the time. It makes me feel happy. I think reggae set the foundation for all the upcoming artists we see now in the caribbean. I mean you can have a great beat to your song but if it's not saying anything...What is there really to remember??

ok...i can only speak for my generation...and i can say that we young people enjoy our reggae music. Dance hall music especially because we can express ourselves with dancing and thinking up new dance hall moves. When you listen to reggae music..the lyrics in them can be related to..the violence, poverty and the many joys of caribbean life. The reggae beat can be intoxicating, hypnotic, captivating so when it gets into your system you cant get it out. And i have to disagree with ashley because the instrumental of some riddims are really rememberable

Reggae Culture is one of the most treasured cultures today. The Ras-Tafari movement is influenced by it and most generations of the world are very familiar with it. In fact Reggae has a great effect on our different lifestyles. Though it differs from Dancehall, (the very popular genre amongst most youngsters), Reggae, has maintained its reason for existence which is the ability to drive many people into consciousness of the world's negativity/positivity and its messages about the value of life and the value of one's self and one of its most important reasons for existence, to praise Jah. Listening to Reggae has instilled a sense of consciousness within me. I discovered a method of expressing my thoughts about the world by lyrically studying the songs. This helped me enhance my sense of understanding for myself; I discovered I had the faith! Reggae is life, I can definitely say that. It is what keeps us together, we black people. Reggae music has revolved over the years, must I add. I did not grow up listening to it really, all because of my parents who believed that Reggae was for Rastafarians. In their eyes Rastafarians were not of value. They believed that their culture [Reggae Culture] was not one to follow and that the Dancehall they heard was “Rasta Music”. Most Dancehall is filled of violent and sexual lyrics and most persons did not know the difference between reggae and dancehall, so they considered it “bad”. But that didn’t stop me! The rhythm of every Reggae instrumental differs; they all have their special “flavor”. Whether it is a song about love, the world, faith, or violence, Reggae is the only genre that will bring out the message PROPERLY. With the passion most of us have for this superb Genre, Reggae has become a priority in the music industry especially because of music from [ex.] Lucky Dube, Bob Marley, Buju Banton, Sizzla Kalonji, Capleton and so many others including the not so popular artists.
